Privacy Policy

Effective 12 September 2026 · Applies to the NextDate mobile app and nextdate.in

The short version. We collect what the app needs to introduce you to people nearby and keep that experience safe: your account details, profile, approximate location and activity in the app. We do not sell your personal data. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time.

1. Who we are

NextDate ("NextDate", "we", "us") operates the NextDate mobile application and the website at nextdate.in. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. It applies to everyone who uses NextDate.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use NextDate.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — name, email address and/or phone number, date of birth, gender and the password or sign-in provider you use.
  • Profile content — photos, bio, interests, dating intent, NextDate ID (handle), and any other detail you choose to add.
  • Messages and content — chats with your matches, virtual date invitations, and reports you submit about other users.
  • Payment records — if you subscribe, our payment processor and the app store handle the transaction. We receive a record that a subscription is active; we never see or store your full card or bank details.
  • Support correspondence — anything you send us by email or through the in-app support form.

Information collected automatically

  • Approximate location — used to show distance and nearby profiles, only with your permission. See section 6.
  • Device and technical data — device model, operating system version, app version, language, crash reports and diagnostics.
  • Usage data — swipes, matches, screens viewed, features used and session timing, used to operate and improve the service and to enforce daily limits.
  • Identifiers — a device identifier and push notification token so we can deliver notifications and detect abuse.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and maintain your account and profile.
  • To show you people nearby and show your profile to them, within the radius and filters you set.
  • To deliver matches, chats, virtual dates, notifications and other core features.
  • To keep NextDate safe: detecting fake profiles, spam, harassment, underage accounts and other violations of our Terms.
  • To provide optional AI features such as chat assistance, and to moderate profile text before it is published.
  • To process subscriptions, referral rewards and in-app purchases.
  • To respond to your support requests.
  • To understand how the app is used in aggregate so we can improve it.
  • To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your profile with advertisers for cross-app tracking.

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (running the service you signed up for); your consent (for location, camera, notifications and optional features, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings); our legitimate interests (safety, fraud prevention, product improvement); and legal obligation (retaining records we are required to keep).

5. Who we share information with

  • Other users — your profile, photos, NextDate ID, approximate distance and anything you send in chat are visible to the people you are shown to or matched with. Do not put anything in your profile you would not want a stranger to see.
  • Service providers — cloud hosting, database, authentication, push notification, crash reporting, analytics, content moderation and payment providers who process data on our instructions and under contract. This includes Google Firebase for hosting, authentication, storage and messaging.
  • App stores — Google Play and the Apple App Store, for distribution and subscription billing.
  • Law enforcement and authorities — where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.
  • Business transfer — if NextDate is ever acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will tell you before it becomes subject to a different policy.

6. Location data

NextDate asks for location permission so that it can calculate how far away other people are and show you profiles inside your chosen radius (5 km to 160 km). We store an approximate location, not a precise address or a location history trail. Your coordinates are never shown to other users — only a rounded distance.

You can decline location permission or revoke it later in your device settings. The app will keep working, but discovery will be less relevant.

7. Photos and the face check

Your first profile photo is automatically checked for the presence of a human face. This check runs on your device using an on-device machine-learning model; it is used only to confirm that a face is present so that blank, logo and obviously fake profiles are kept out. It does not identify you, and we do not build or store a face-recognition template from it.

Photos you upload are stored on our cloud storage and shown to other users as part of your profile. Deleting a photo removes it from your profile, and deleting your account removes your photos.

8. AI features and moderation

NextDate offers optional AI chat assistance and AI-generated opener suggestions. When you tap to request a suggestion, relevant context from the conversation or profile is sent through our backend to a third-party AI model provider to generate the suggestion. Profile bios are also passed through an automated content-safety check before they are published.

Suggestions are drafts — nothing is sent to another user unless you send it. We do not use your private conversations to train third-party models.

9. Retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, matches and messages are deleted from the live service, and residual copies are removed from backups on our ordinary backup cycle (normally within 30 days).

We may retain a minimal record for longer where we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to prevent a banned user from simply making a new account.

To delete your account: Profile → Settings → Delete account, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and receive a copy in a portable format. Most of these you can do directly in the app; for anything else, email privacy@nextdate.in and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are in India, you may also contact our grievance officer at the same address. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.

11. Children

NextDate is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it and its data immediately. If you believe a minor is using NextDate, please report the profile in the app or email safety@nextdate.in.

12. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls, server-side security rules and monitoring to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. If a change materially affects your rights we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The "effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
